Helianthus annuus. Lemon Queen Organic sunflower seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! Lemon Queen is a wonderful, medium tall sunflower with brilliant light lemon yellow flowers that are typically 10-13cm (5-6") wide. with chocolate brown centers. This sunflower develops numerous branches, and each bears multiple flowers. Grow some for cut flowers and enjoy the bright colour indoors. Lemon Queen grows to about 1.8-2m (6-7') tall. Direct sow sunflower seeds in full sun in well drained soil once it warms up from April to June. Plant more seeds at three week intervals for a much longer bloom period. This sunflower begins flowering about 90 days after sowing.

How to grow
Timing: Direct sow in mid-to-late spring. Sowing indoors is possible, but does not gain much time. Root-bound plants lack stability and may need staking at tranplant time. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 21-30 degrees C (70-85F).
Seeding:Sow seeds 2cm (1") deep, 15cm (6") apart. Thin or space 30cm (12") apart.
Growing: 1-2 cups of balanced fertilizer per 3m (10') row is enough for the whole season. When the back of the seed head turns yellow in the fall, cut it off the plant. Rub the seeds loose and dry them indoors on trays. For cut flowers, harvest while the flowers are still compact, and just beginning to open. immerse stems in cool water soon after cutting.
