Trap & Lure - Squash Vine Borer
Price
C$32.99
Squash vine borers destroy plants in the squash family (squash, pumpkin, zucchini, gourd) while in their larval stage by boring into stems and devouring plant stem tissues, causing significant damage, before pupating in the soil and emerging as insects in the summer.
Traps and lures are a good way to help control their population by attracting the adult insects with sex pheromone lures. Place traps near gardens from May to early July.
It's important to utilise multiple approaches to control significant infestations in the garden:
- crop rotation
- companion plantings (marigolds, nasturtiums)
- row covers
- hand picking
- soil solarization (to destroy pupating insects)
