NATIVE SHRUBS & TREES

Native shrubs and trees provide so many rewards and resources for wildlife! They play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and are at the very foundation of local food webs. Many of them are keystone plants within our local ecosystems, which means they support a multitude of insects, which are often the main food source for birds and mammals alike. Not only are they a food source, but they also provide essential shelter for wildlife.

In contrast, non-native species of shrubs and trees support much fewer local wildlife and what's more important to consider, is that they can become disruptive and displace higher-value native species.

The shrubs and trees below will be available at Lavish Gardens in 2026. Those marked with a white star are KEYSTONE PLANTS - which means that they are the species that support the MOST insects and birds and have an incredibly high value within our local ecosystems.
